BEIJING, May 25 (APP): A three-year cooperative project on science education for youth was launched in Beijing on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.

The cooperative plan was initiated on a hybrid meeting between China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF).

As per the plan, in the next three years, teachers training, resource sharing and science education projects for youth would be carried out.

Sharing details of the project, Ms. Yang from the Center explained that online lectures, sharing case studies, a website providing courses for teachers and programs for students, and scientific laboratories would elaborate pathways for Pakistan schools to draw on Chinese experience, China Economic Net (CEN) reported on Tuesday.

The CAST and PSF signed a Letter of Intent for science education cooperation. A cooperation initiative of school alliance on science education was also released, based on which thousands Pakistani teachers and hundreds of schools would be involved and empowered.

Meng Qinghai, Vice Chairman of CAST acknowledged the substantial achievements with Pakistan in terms of science education cooperation, mutual recognition of engineering capabilities, and talent exchange and training.

At the end of last year, CAST, PSF and other institutions jointly founded the Preparatory Committee of the World Public Science Literacy Organization to promote international public science literacy.

This breakthrough came after a proposal from PSF to further science education cooperation with Chinese counterpart, revealed Ms. Yang. Building on established relations between the two countries, Dr. Shahid Mahmood Baig, PSF Chairman, expressed the willingness of his organisation to learn from CAST Children and Youth Science Center to promote scientific undertakings in Pakistan.

As an important part of the cooperation project, Gong Ke, President of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), gave a lecture on “Integrating Engineering Education into Sustainable Development” to Chinese and Pakistani science and technology teachers and teenagers.

Awais Ahmed Khan, Political Wing from the Pakistani Embassy in China and Jia Wei, First Secretary of Chinese Embassy in Pakistan also attended the meeting.
