Senator Mushahid calls for depoliticizing Beijing Winter Olympics

While speaking at the virtual Belt and Road conference, organized by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman, Pakistan’s Senate Defense Committee and Pakistan-China Institute, congratulated China on hosting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and opposed efforts to politicize the event. He rejected the cold war mentality of certain western countries, especially the United States. He cited a recent publication by the New York Times which stated that China had delivered on all of its promises regarding the Olympics. He expressed support for President Xi’s statement that China will share vaccines as a global public good and commended China for saving millions of lives and helping millions recover. He also thanked China for supporting different Asian countries including Pakistan during the pandemic.

The International Department of the CPC Central Committee has hosted a Belt and Road conference online with politicians from South and Southeast Asia. Attendees shared their views on the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

MUSHAHID HUSSAIN SAYED Chairman, Pakistan’s Senate Defense Committee “I think that holding the games during this difficult period of the pandemic is a remarkable achievement. We totally reject any efforts to politicize the Beijing Winter Olympics. Because that has nothing to do with sports, it’s to do with geopolitics. And the cold war mentality of certain western countries, especially the United States.”
