The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing celebrated the country’s 78th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony, where attendees donned traditional Pakistani attire and enjoyed festive music. Ambassador Khalil Hashmi highlighted the pride in Pakistan’s achievements and the robust strategic partnership with China, noting extensive cooperation in various fields. He also praised the performance of Chinese and Pakistani athletes at the Paris Olympics. Following the ceremony, civil awards were conferred upon two Chinese citizens for their significant contributions to strengthening China-Pakistan relations.

Wednesday marks the 78th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence from British rule. The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing held a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the occasion. CGTN reporter Liu Jiaxin has the details.

It’s a big day of celebration of Pakistan’s achievements as an independent nation over the past 77 years. Attendees wore traditional Pakistani robes, the shalwar kameez. The embassy courtyard was filled with music and celebratory vibes.

KHALIL HASHMI Ambassador of Pakistan to China “We take a lot of pride in what we have achieved nationally. And also, since we are in China, looking at Pakistan-China relations, we also take a lot of pride in having developed a very stable, a very strong bilateral, strategic partnership between the two countries.”

Ambassador Hashmi said there’s no dimension that the two countries have not touched upon bilaterally – with cooperation seen on the diplomatic front, the political front, in defense, economy, trade, investment, culture, education, agriculture, science and technology.

Hashmi said he was deeply impressed by the just-concluded Paris Olympics and the performance of athletes from both China and Pakistan.

KHALIL HASHMI Ambassador of Pakistan to China “What I found most amazing is – I saw glimpses of how Chinese athletes and sportspersons have performed. I think it was a treat to watch them. I respect their very hard work, talent and resilience in the face of pressures. But they stood out, and I think they made China proud. And I can tell you that this is also the case in Pakistan.”

Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, the Embassy of Pakistan conferred civil awards to two Chinese citizens, namely Sha Zukang, former president of China-Pakistan Friendship Association, and Nong Rong, Former Ambassador of China to Pakistan, for their distinguished contributions in cementing China-Pakistan relations.
