ISLAMABAD: Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, Shi Yuanqiang, has emphasized that mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Pakistan will continue to bolster their strategic relationship, paving the way for a brighter and stronger future.

Speaking at a Chinese New Year celebration event, Shi highlighted the advancements in various fields over the past year, pointing out that high-level exchanges between the two countries in 2024 laid a solid foundation for enhanced bilateral ties. He described the mutual visits of the two nations’ Prime Ministers as instrumental in advancing cooperation and fostering stronger diplomatic relations.

He noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had entered a new and “upgraded” phase, moving beyond its initial framework to deliver deeper and more impactful benefits. “The construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has continued to deepen and solidify, evolving from the layout to a brand-new phase of the ‘upgraded version,’” he said.

The Charge d’Affaires appreciated the role of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, acknowledging their proactive contributions to fostering bilateral cooperation and strengthening economic and cultural ties. He urged them to continue acting as “bridges of China-Pakistan friendship” and narrators of China’s progress and development to the Pakistani public.

Reflecting on recent diplomatic milestones, Shi highlighted the state visit of Pakistan’s President to China from February 4 to 8, 2025. The visit coincided with the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Pakistan in 2015 and took place during China’s Spring Festival celebrations. He described the visit as a pivotal moment for charting future cooperation and reinforcing bilateral ties amidst global changes.

“Looking ahead to the new year, we will continue to comprehensively advance the construction of a strong nation and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization, persistently promote high-quality development and high-level opening-up, and fully accomplish the goals and tasks set out in the 14th Five-Year Plan,” Shi remarked.

He expressed hope that Chinese nationals in Pakistan would leverage their skills and expertise to further advance cooperation in various sectors, including economy, trade, science, and culture. Shi also stressed the importance of enhancing the cohesion of overseas Chinese communities in Pakistan.

The envoy noted that the Chinese New Year is a significant event for the Chinese people, symbolizing new beginnings, family reunions, and shared joy. He extended warm New Year greetings to overseas Chinese, enterprise workers, and students living in Pakistan.

“I wish you all good fortune in the Year of the Snake, good health, family happiness, and success in all your endeavors,” he said.

Shi Yuanqiang’s remarks underscore China’s ongoing commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial and enduring relationship with Pakistan, which is seen as a cornerstone of its strategic regional interests.
