China’s experience with poverty alleviation is instructive for Pakistan: PCJCCI

Moazzam Ghurki, President Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), indicated during a think tank session held Wednesday at the PCJCCI Secretariat that China’s poverty reduction experience in rural regions is instructive for Pakistan. He praised China’s incredible work in poverty reduction and establishing a pattern for the rest of the world.

According to President PCJCCI, Pakistan is still having difficulty assisting people in opening their most basic bank accounts, while China is very developed and has entered the next stage of digitalization. But Pakistan is truly making progress these days. Since 2005, several banks and microfinance institutions have been operational.

According to Fang Yulong, Senior Vice President PCJCCI, financial literacy is crucial to reducing poverty. As such, we should start sending younger Pakistani and Chinese generations to rural areas to conduct training sessions for men and women on financial literacy, financial products, and how to access financing.

He went on to say that money is essentially the lifeblood of the economy. Without it, it is impossible to start a small business or advance in society. Education is also necessary for improvement, upward mobility, and social prestige.

Vice President of PCJCCI Hamza Khalid noted that rural tourism is becoming more and more popular these days. We eat food every day, but most people—especially kids—don’t know how it gets on their plate or in its packaging.

It is crucial that kids go to a location where they can observe how seeds are sown, feel them germinate in the earth with their own hands, watch the plants grow, and then harvest fresh carrots straight from the soil. It’s a crucial educational opportunity for the next generation.
