Chinese firm provides school kits to poor students

SWABI: Power China – a Chinese company constructing Tarbela Dam’s Fourth Extension Project, on Monday provided school kits to poor students of a Pakistan Baitul Mal school in Topi here.

A local charity, Takal Welfare Organisation, had approached the officials of the Chinese company and apprised them about difficulties confronted by the underprivileged students of the school. The officials agreed to provide school kits to students which comprised notebooks, registers, shoes and other necessary items.

A total of 5,000 notebooks and 30 pair of shoes were provided to needy students, according to the charity. On the occasion, Topi Tehsil Naib Nazim Mohammad Younas said it was responsibility of philanthropists and welfare bodies to come forward and help the poor children and orphans in acquiring education.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: Personnel of Frontier Constabulary (FC) and army are providing security to the vaccinators during the three-day anti-polio drive started in the district on Monday, DPO Javid Iqbal told Dawn.

He said that 100 personnel from army and 630 from FC had been deployed for security of polio campaign, adding as the polio drive commenced in the province on the same day, army and FC personnel were deployed for security of vaccinators.

Meanwhile, health officials said the anti-polio drops would be administrated to more than 254,000 children in the district during the campaign. They said 530 teams had been constituted for the purpose, adding arrangements had been made for vaccinating the children at two Afghan refugee camps in the district.
