  1. Port Qasim 2×660 MW Coal-Fired Power Project

Port Qasim 2x660MW Coal-fired Power Project is jointly developed by Powerchina Resources Limited (51% shares) and Al Mirqab Capital (49% shares), which is the first large-scale energy project launched under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Project is located in the Port Qasim Industrial Park, and consists of two modern supercritical coal-fired units, a self-dedicated coal unloading jetty and a 4 km-length channel dredged and transferred to Port Qasim Authority. The Plant adopts the world’s leading technology – supercritical thermal technology with gross capacity of 2*660 MW, has the average annual energy output around 9,000 GWh and is able to support 4 million households’ daily electricity consumption. The Project has the world-class environment-friendly operations including seawater desalination, secondary circulating seawater cooling and flue gas desulfurization, satisfying the environmental standards of the World Bank, which will output the high efficiency and high availability to ensure sustainable, reliable and affordable electricity.

The total investment of Project is approximately 2.085 billion USD, with the ratio of equity and debt approximately 25%:75%. Debt will be arranged by the sponsors from the Export-Import Bank of China (China EXIM Bank), without increasing the financial burden of Government of Pakistan. The Project has directly created over 5000 job opportunities to Pakistani engineers and labors during construction period, and will annually create around 500 training and job opportunities to Pakistani talents during operation period. The massive construction of the Project started in May 2015. The Unit-1 synchronized on Nov. 10th, 2017, and the Unit-2 synchronized on Jan. 15th, 2018.
