CPEC: Sukkur-Multan Motorway; another Spectacle Project Completed Two Weeks Earlier

Construction on 392-kilometer Sukkur-Multan Motorway has completed two weeks ahead of its time. The mega project of Peshawar-Karachi Motorway also known as Motorway 5 is the six-lane highway started in August 2016 and was expected to complete by August 2019. During three years of construction, it created produced 29,000 jobs in the localities. Motorway 5 is significant because it is the biggest transportation project successfully carried out under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Motorway 5 is constructed for speeds of up to 120 km with the expenditure of nearly $2.89 bn financed through Government Concessional Loan (GCL). It is using the Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) and is created to resist floods. It is equipped with technologies such as FM broadcasting, 360-degree angle monitoring, WIFI in service areas, & night lighting. Sukkur-Multan Motorway relied on domestically produced materials and goods such as 60 million bricks, 6 million tiles, 1 million tons of cement, 9200 sets of machines & tools. According to unofficial sources, Motorway 5 will begin from Multan from Jalalpur, Peerwala, Ahmed Pur East, Rahimyar Khan, Sadiqabad, Ubaro, Pano Aqil finishing at Sukkur.
