At a recent conference on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan underscored the importance of considering proposals for the second phase of the multi-billion-dollar project.

The ambassador outlined several strategic proposals aimed at fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life in Pakistan.

The ambassador highlighted China’s proposal to develop five key corridors under the second phase of CPEC, emphasizing the need for alignment with Pakistan’s initiatives. “The new government of Pakistan is preparing five e-mechanisms,” he noted. “By integrating these two pilot frameworks, we can collectively bring prosperity and enhance local employment opportunities.”

He added that by creating employment opportunities for the local people, their quality of life could be improved, and stressed that the establishment and development of Chinese industries in Pakistan was most important. “We plan to develop Special Economic Zones through the expertise of Chinese professionals.”

Wang described this phase of CPEC as strategic, pointing out that it goes beyond specific projects to encompass a broader vision for economic cooperation and development. He stressed the importance of a unified vision and leadership in realizing the full potential of CPEC. “A unified vision and leadership are critical to CPEC’s development,” he stated.

The ambassador also called for a comprehensive integration of China’s Five C (corridors) and Pakistan’s Five E (e-mechanisms) frameworks to ensure a cohesive and effective implementation strategy.

Wang concluded by expressing optimism about the future of CPEC and its role in transforming Pakistan’s economic landscape. “Together, we can achieve significant advancements and bring about tangible benefits to the people of Pakistan,” he affirmed.

CPEC projects security

Meanwhile, sources have said that the government aims to tighten security for CPEC projects and Chinese workers in Pakistan. The civil intelligence agency has decided to release Rs200 million more for CPEC projects, they added.

They further said that the additional funds would be released after approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The decision to do so was taken after a recent terrorist attack on Chinese engineers, wherein the prime minister gave strict instructions to ensure safety of Chinese engineers and workers in Pakistan.

The sources also said that direction were issued for strict implementation of approved SOPs on critical issue. Anti-national agencies are looking to sabotage CPEC projects, they claimed.
