General Qamar, Ambassador Nong and Defence Attache Maj Gen Yang Yang discuss regional matters
Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong and Incoming Chinese Defence Attache Major General Yang Yang called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ in Rawalpindi and the three discussed matters related to regional stability. Pakistan Military’s media wing, ISPR said that General Bajwa congratulated the incoming defense attache for his appointment and discussed matters pertaining to the Afghan peace process and measures to further enhance bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Nong Rong also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for providing a safe and secure environment to CPEC projects.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday reiterated the need for convergence of efforts towards a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan in pursuit of regional stability, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
He expressed these remarks during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong and incoming Chinese Defence Attache to Pakistan Major General Yang Yang at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, the military’s media wing said, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation – including the Afghan peace process and measures to further enhance bilateral cooperation – were discussed.
The COAS congratulated the incoming defence attache for assuming his new appointment and appreciated the efforts of his predecessor.
The statement further said that the visiting dignitaries thanked Gen Qamar for special measures taken for the provision of a safe and secure environment to CPEC projects in Pakistan and efforts towards regional stability.
In August, during another visit to the GHQ, envoy Nong Rong discussed matters of mutual interest. “Visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region. He reiterated that China shall continue to support Pakistan as a strategic partner,” ISPR added.
In July, Gen Qamar had said that both the Pakistani and Chinese armies would continue to contribute towards safeguarding collective interests, terming the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Pakistan Army brothers in arms.
The army chief was speaking at the 94th anniversary of the founding of PLA commemorated at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
Chinese Envoy Nong Rang, Defence Attache Maj Gen Chen Wenrong, officials from the Chinese embassy and officers from the tri-services of Pakistan attended the event.
On the occasion, according to the ISPR, the defence attaché thanked the COAS for hosting a reception on the eve of PLA’s 94th Anniversary.
