Government is committed to prioritize execution of SEZs under CPEC
Sindh Investment department has informed that the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under CPEC is being developed on a fast track. Secretary Investment department Najam Ahmed Shah has underlined the socio-economic viability of Dhabeji SEZ and said it would promote the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan. Najam Shah said Dhabeji is a “commercially well-connected SEZ under CPEC” and ensured his commitment to make Dhabeji SEZ industrial and commercial hub in the province.
Meanwhile, during the 20th meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC, the Board of Investment (BOI) informed that they are working to resolve the issues pertaining to SEZs under CPEC on a priority basis. Secretary, power division Mr. Irfan Ali has ensured to resolve issues of Dhabeji SEZ within a month.
KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Jun, 2020 ) :Sindh Secretary Investment department Najam Ahmed Shah has informed that Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (DSEZ), a Priority Project under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is well on course to be developed under Public Private Partnership through international competitive bidding process.
He said the Sindh government, despite COVID-19 outbreak, has received huge interest, a number of bids were received from potential investors on June 11 which were currently being reviewed, said a statement on Thursday.
He mentioned that Dhabeji SEZ was the most viable and commercially well connected SEZ in Pakistan. The zone would facilitate the potential investors of China and other countries to either start new enterprises or transfer their facilities to Pakistan, he added.
It worths mentioning here that Sindh Cheif Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has shown his full commitment to facilitate the development of Dhabeji SEZ on behalf of the Sindh government.
The CM recently announced to expand the zone by additional 3000 acres to make Dhabeji SEZ, an industrial and commercial hub in the province to boost the economic activities.
Secretary Investment Najam Shah, while chairing a project review meeting, informed that a number of key industrial clusters including Steel, automotive, auto parts, chemical, pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, textile & garments will be housed within Dhabeji SEZ.
It has been estimated that the Dhabeji Project will create 50,000+ direct, 500,000 indirect jobs in addition to the Economic and Social development in Pakistan. The zone will help increase the exports volumes in major sectors.
It is expected that the project development will start in the coming months with the support of National Development & Reform Commission of China as part of the industrial cooperation phase of CPEC. The project is being executed through SEZMC on behalf of Government of Sindh.
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Jun, 2020 ) :The board of investment (BOI) assured the parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to resolve the issues of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) of CPES for creating better environment to attract the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country.
The Federal Secretary of BOI, Mr Omer Rasool also apprised the committee that they are working in tandem with CPEC authority to resolve the outstanding issues of SEZs on Priority bases.
The meeting of the parliamentary Committee on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was held on Wednesday in Parliament house, under the Chairmanship of MNA, Sher ali Arbab.
The issues of Rashakai and Dhabeji Special Economic Zones (SEZs) relating to supply of electricity and gas were also discussed.
The Secretary Power division briefed the committee on the power projects under CPEC.
Secretary, power division Mr. Irfan Ali committed to resolves issues pertaining to Dhabeji SEZ in one month time frame.
It was agreed upon that the next meeting will resume this discussion has national energy basket heavily release on these power projects and these are two vital for the economic life line of the country.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Noor Alam Khan,Murtaza Javed Abbasi , Ms Hina Rabbani Khar and Senator Mir Kabir Ahmed.
