Karamay city hosts first international cultural communication event

The International Cultural Communication Event titled “Gathering in the Oil City, Enjoying City Tours, and Admiring the City’s Charm” was held in Karamay, Xinjiang, highlighting the city’s urban image and promoting global cultural exchange. Over 40 international and domestic experts and journalists attended, hearing speeches from senior officials and touring key sites such as the Karamay Museum, Black Oil Mountain, the Devil’s City, Karamay Hospital, and the China University of Petrochemicals. The visit showcased Karamay’s industrial heritage, natural landscapes, smart healthcare, and modern governance, leaving participants with a strong impression of a city that blends history, development, and cultural openness.

KARAMAY, Nov 15 (APP): The International Cultural Communication Event themed Gathering in the Oil City, Enjoying City Tours, and Admiring the City’s Charm in Karamay was recently was held in Karamay, China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, to showcase city’s urban image, using culture as a solid bond to actively promote international exchange and mutual learning.
The speakers at the event shared the stories of Xinjiang and Karamay city, building a more extensive and robust platform for cultural exchange and communication between China and other countries.
Ma Xueliang, Secretary of CPC Karamay Municipal Committee delivered welcome speech while Chen Xueliang, Deputy Head the Publicity Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region CPC Committee addressed the audience.
The participants comprising over 40 international and domestic experts and journalists also concluded a field tour of Karamay, a major oil city in China.
The field tour offered a comprehensive look at the city’s progress, from its industrial roots to its modern advancements.
The tour began at the Karamay Museum. Historical exhibits there, including statues of early oil workers and their equipment, vividly recounted the hardships and determination of the city s pioneers. Guests explored a restored cellar at the Black Oil Mountain site, gaining a deep appreciation for the perseverance that defined Karamay s founding era.
At the active Black Oil Mountain, the group witnessed natural oil bubbles seeping to the surface. Khalid H. Sayem Aldahar, a columnist for Saudi Arabia s Okaz News, remarked on the decades of dedication. Generations of oilmen have defied difficulties, he said, finally making Karamay one of the most influential energy cities.
The delegation also experienced Karamay’s rich culture and landscape. They were greeted by traditional performances at the world famous Devil’s City, a stunning area of wind eroded rock formations.
The tour highlighted modern achievements as well. At Karamay Hospital, the group observed a smart healthcare system where most procedures can be handled via mobile phone. A representative from Pakistan s Baluchistan province noted the efficiency and praised the city for providing medical education to Pakistani students.
The visit also included the China University of Petrochemicals campus and a community center where an AI social worker streamlines services for residents. Lin Jie, a professor from Xinjiang University, commended the city s grassroots governance.
Despite the brief visit, the delegation left with a strong impression of Karamay as a city that blends a proud industrial heritage with a forward looking and inclusive future.
