Pakistan and China to Fast-Track Critical CPEC Infrastructure Projects, Says Minister Khan

Federal Minister for Investment Board Communications and Privatisation, Abdul Aleem Khan, met with China’s Transport Minister, Li Xiaopeng, during the Beijing International Transport Conference to advance key China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. The discussions centered on expediting the Karakoram Highway, ML-1, M-6, and M-9, emphasizing the role of public-private partnerships in financing. Minister Khan expressed optimism about the ongoing talks, highlighting the significance of infrastructure development in enhancing regional connectivity. Both sides agreed to mutual cooperation for the next phase of the Karakoram Highway, further strengthening China-Pakistan ties.

Federal Minister for Investment Board Communications  and Privatisation Abdul Aleem Khan arrived in Beijing to attend the International Transport Conference, where he engaged in detailed discussions with China’s Transport Minister, Li Xiaopeng.

The meeting focused on the collaboration between Pakistan and China on several mega projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Both ministers agreed to prioritize the advancement of four key projects, including the Karakoram Highway, the Main Line-1 (ML-1), M-6, and M-9. Minister Khan emphasized the significance of these initiatives, stating that they represent a crucial step in enhancing connectivity and infrastructure development in the region.

Khan highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in financing these ambitious projects, noting that discussions on the financial model were a significant part of the talks.

He expressed optimism about the positive outcomes from the ongoing conference, stating, “More positive developments will emerge from the Beijing International Transport Conference.”

The discussions also covered the completion of communication links related to CPEC projects, with Khan asserting that all projects under CPEC are viable.

He further revealed that there would be mutual cooperation from China for the second phase of the Karakoram Highway, which includes the construction of the Babusar Top Tunnel and connections to Kaghan Naran and Jhal Khand.

Khan referred to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries as a testament to China’s enduring friendship with Pakistan. He affirmed that this collaboration would bring significant benefits to both nations.
