Pakistan offers Tajikistan access to Gwadar to tap opportunities under CPEC
Pakistan offered Tajikistan access to its warm water ports of Karachi and Gwadar – part of CPEC – as it reiterated resolve to revive the cross-border power transmission project. This was discussed during a metting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Council meeting in Samarkand. Shehbaz was accompanied by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail and other officials and diplomatic staff.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday met on the sidelines of the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and discussed issues of mutual interest.
The meeting focused on strengthening Pak-Uzbek ties in diverse fields for the benefit of the two brotherly nations.
It merits mention that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is visiting Samarkand, Uzbekistan to attend the annual meeting of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
After his arrival, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the ancient Khizar mosque of Uzbekistan’s historic city Samarkand.
The prime minister appreciated the architectural masterpiece of the mosque built in the eighth century. Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif and Miftah Ismail accompanied the prime minister.
PM Sharif also paid respects at the mausoleum of Uzbekistan’s first president, Islam Karimov.
