Pakistan trains agriculture graduates in China to modernize farming
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain said the government is committed to transforming Pakistan’s agriculture by empowering youth with modern knowledge and skills. Addressing a send-off ceremony at NARC, he announced that 224 agriculture graduates will receive advanced training in China under the Prime Minister’s Special Capacity-Building Initiative. The programme, part of the Pakistan–China cooperation under CPEC, will provide specialized training in crop breeding, veterinary science, intelligent farming, and seed production at top Chinese universities. The minister emphasized that investing in human capital is vital for sustainable growth and expressed confidence that the trainees will help modernize agriculture, promote climate-smart practices, and boost exports.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has said the government is committed to revolutionizing Pakistan’s agriculture sector by equipping youth with modern knowledge and practical skills.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), the minister highlighted that 224 Pakistani agriculture graduates will travel to China under the Prime Minister’s Special Capacity-Building Initiative. The programme reflects the government’s vision of building a modern, innovative, and climate-resilient agriculture sector through international collaboration.
The trainees will receive specialized training at two leading Chinese institutions: Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) in Shaanxi, focusing on crop genetic breeding, veterinary medicine, intelligent agricultural equipment, and animal breeding, and Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) in Wuhan, emphasizing seed production and processing in partnership with Qingfa-Heshang Agricultural Development Company.
Rana Tanveer Hussain praised the coordination between the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing. He emphasized that investing in human capital is key to sustainable agricultural growth, and the graduates will act as catalysts for innovation and productivity enhancement upon their return.
The minister added that the initiative represents a strategic pillar of Pakistan–China friendship under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and expressed confidence that the trainees will help modernize agriculture, promote climate-smart practices, and boost Pakistan’s agricultural exports.
