Pakistani Mangoes Export to China to Increase Manifold Under Agricultural Cooperation in CPEC

The huge disparity between Pakistan’s fruit exports and the actual production is due to obsolete farming techniques. After the resolution of the energy issue, the prospects for increased fruit exports lie in the massive infrastructure projects being completed under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Farmers are hopeful that with the increased focus of CPEC on agriculture and incoming Chinese technology, their productive capacity will be further enhanced resulting in increased sales in big cities as well as other countries.

Pakistani workers harvest mangoes at an orchard in Vehari in Pakistan’s Punjab province on July 15, 2019. Pakistan is a major producer of the world’s best and most popular mangoes, ranking the 4th largest in the world with an annual output of around 1.8 million tons. The sweet and juicy mangoes earn its reputation in European and Gulf countries and serves as a main pillar of Pakistan’s fruit exports.
