Pakistan’s fish meal exports to China up 27% in first half of 2025

BEIJING, July 31 (APP): Pakistan’s exports of flours and meals of fish, used in animal feeding, to China surged by 27% in the first half of 2025, reflecting growing demand and competitiveness in the Chinese market.

According to official data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), Pakistan exported 25.13 million kilograms of fish flours and meals to China from January to June 2025, valued at $23.75 million.

This marks a significant rise compared to the same period in 2024, when the export value stood at $18.70 million.

Owais Mir, an industry insider told CEN that one of the key factors behind this growth has been Pakistan’s competitive pricing. This year, the average export price offered by Pakistan was among the lowest at just $ 0.95 per kilogram, enhancing its appeal to Chinese importers seeking cost-effective animal feed solutions.

He further said that as per data he received that in contrast, Denmark remained one of the highest-priced suppliers, offering fish meal to China at an average price of $ 1.88 per kilogram. Denmark’s total export volume during the period reached $2.89 million.

“With growing demand for protein-rich animal feed in China, Pakistan’s fish meal sector is expected to maintain momentum, supported by its strategic location, competitive prices, and strengthening bilateral trade ties”, he added.

Industry experts note that the steady increase in Pakistan’s fish meal exports to China demonstrates strengthened agricultural and marine cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It also signals the potential for further trade growth if quality standards and sustainable sourcing continue to improve.
