Pakistan’s Pavilion Draws Crowds at China-South Asia Expo
Pakistani products gained significant attention at the 9th China-South Asia Expo, with exhibitors praising streamlined logistics, low tariffs, and growing Chinese interest in Pakistani goods like fresh fruits, pink Himalayan salt, and gemstones. Entrepreneurs highlighted CPEC’s role in boosting trade and urged Pakistani businesses to better understand Chinese consumer preferences.
KUNMING, CHINA – Pakistani entrepreneurs made a vibrant impact at the 9th China-South Asia Expo, held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, showcasing a wide array of fresh, locally-sourced products including fruits, pink Himalayan salt, handicrafts, and precious stones.
With the support of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and smoother trade facilitation, Pakistani businesses reported improved logistics and increased access to Chinese markets. “It’s now quite easy to ship goods from Pakistan to China,” said Faisal, a trader attending the Expo. “From Karachi to major Chinese cities, we can deliver shipments within 15 days. Tariffs are low, and customs clearance at ports like Huangpu and Tianjin has been very efficient.”
Exhibitors credited the Expo organizers and local government for ensuring a well-organized event, enabling seamless participation. “Help is coming from all directions,” noted another trader. “Sea freight is simple, and we’ve had great support from the Expo authorities.”
Alam, a gemstone and jade merchant, emphasized the importance of understanding the Chinese market: “Pakistani businesses must study Chinese consumer behavior and cultural values. For example, understanding the symbolism of jade or zodiac signs like ‘Pisces’ is crucial to tailor our products for local appeal.”
This year’s Expo featured over 2,500 enterprises from 73 countries, regions, and international organizations. Since its inception in 2013, the Expo has grown exponentially, expanding its exhibition space from 50,000 to 160,000 square meters across 16 halls.
As Pakistani products continue to gain recognition in China, the Expo has become an essential platform for enhancing bilateral trade under the broader framework of CPEC and regional cooperation.
