ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has underscored the importance of the all-weather strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, describing it as “an anchor of regional stability” and “a beacon of hope for global peace and prosperity”.

“We are proud of our collaboration in various fields from the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to cultural exchanges, education, defence production,” the PM said on Thursday

Shehbaz was addressing an event organized at the PM House for the unveiling of the sculptures of the founders of the two nations—Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Chinese leader Mao Zedong. A niece of Chairman Mao Zedong, Mao Xiaoqing, also graced the event.

Jinnah and Mao were respectively born on December 25, 1871 and December 26, 1983.

According to the PM, the historic bonds between Pakistan and China spanning over decades are a testament to their shared values and of mutual respect, trust and cooperation.

He said the founding fathers of both the nations recognized the importance of Pakistan-China relations, adding that the all-weather strategic partnership of the two nations today is an anchor of regional stability under these challenging global circumstances.

“Quaid-e-Azam was the founder of Pakistan and his great leadership played a decisive role to carve out Pakistan from the sub-continent through outstanding leadership and great sacrifices by the Muslims.”

Appreciating the great work done by renowned Chinese artist and sculptor Yuan Xikum who made the sculptures of the great leaders, the PM said he has wonderfully captured the essence of the two iconic leaders.

Shehbaz recalled that during his recent visit to China in June this year, he, on the recommendation of President Xi, went to Xian and had the opportunity to visit the terracotta museum, a symbol of past glory and heritage.

Similarly, he said Pakistan proudly traces its history to the Indus valley civilization, whose relics are preserved in Mohenjo Daro and Harappa.

“So by these accounts, today’s ceremony is very special and unique as we honour the vision and legacies of our founding fathers who held a common vision of independence, justice, equity, emancipation and self-respect for the two nations,” he added.

The prime minister said hundreds of Pakistani students are visiting Chinese universities which are becoming a bridge between the two countries.

The first batch of students of agriculture is going to visit China next month and get education in the field and learn modern techniques and expertise to boost production of Pakistan’s agriculture which is yet another step towards our economic cooperation, he said.

Yuan Xikum, on the occasion said the greatness of both Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mao Zedong compelled him to make these sculptures.
