SCO Media, Think Tank Summit begins in Zhengzhou, China
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit is being held in Zhengzhou, China, to highlight the role of media and intellectuals in strengthening people-to-people ties and fostering regional harmony under the “Shanghai Spirit” — a principle rooted in mutual trust, equality, and respect for diversity. Attended by over 400 participants from SCO member states and dialogue partners, including Pakistan, the summit is organized by the State Council Information Office of China and co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and other institutions. It precedes the upcoming 25th SCO Heads of State meeting in August 2025, with the “Zhengzhou Consensus” as its key outcome document.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization Media and Think Tank Summit, taking place on Friday in Zhengzhou (capital of Henan Province of China) underlines the importance of media and intelligentsia in promoting people-to-people contacts and cross-national harmony across SCO’s member states in order to achieve “Shanghai Spirit”.
The term “Shanghai Spirit”, derived from Shanghai Cooperation Organization, emphasizes mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, respect for cultural diversity, and a desire for common development.
Over 400 representatives from media outlets and international and regional organisations from SCO member states and dialogue partners are attending this Summit. The delegation from Pakistan also includes Director General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Saeed Ahmed Shaikh.
This Summit is being held under the auspices of State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China and jointly hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and People’s Government of Henan Province.
This Summit is a prelude to 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of States of SCO, that is likely to take place in China from 31st of August 2025.
The key outcome document of SCO Media and Think Tank Summit shall be “Zhengzhou Consensus” focusing areas to uphold “Shanghai Spirit” for peaceful and prosperous world.
