Vice-Chairman CMC General Xu Meets Prime Minister Imran Khan

Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), General Xu Qiliang met with Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan at Prime Minister office. Later, Dr Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan also met with Chinese Vice Chairman CMC. General Xu met with COAS General Bajwa on 26 Aug 2019 and signed an MoU to enhance military cooperation and capacity building between China and Pakistan. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), dignitary Vice-Chairman remarked that China values the time-tested relations of Pakistan and its Army and is hoping to consolidate this friendship. COAS General Bajwa, on this occasion, welcomed the Chinese understanding and support on all vital matters, especially Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD: The vice-chairperson of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), General Xu Qiliang, on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan, a statement said.

The meeting between PM Imran and Gen Xu took place in the Prime Minister’s office, the statement added.

A day prior, the CMC VC — with a high-level delegation — had visited the Pakistan Army’s headquarters and held a one-on-one meeting with Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting was followed by delegation-level talks between the two sides.

“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security, avenues to enhance bilateral defence collaboration, and particularly the situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoJ&K) were discussed,” it had said.

COAS Gen Bajwa appreciated China’s understanding and support on all important issues particularly Kashmir, the statement had added, noting that the visiting dignitary said China “greatly values its time tested relations with Pakistan and its Army and is looking forward to further solidify this relation”.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the two sides for enhancement of defence cooperation and capacity building of Pakistan Army.

On arrival at the GHQ, Gen Xu laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Monument) and was presented a guard of honour.
